Am I the only one owning party clothes but having no party context to wear them usually? Well, this was the case with my sequined vintage jacket that I scored in a charity shop here in Aberdeen but never really had the chance to wear it in a glam situation.
So I decided to spice things up a bit and get on a mission to wear this piece in a daytime context instead. And there I was in the middle of the city center all sparkly and shiny, not giving a damn that drivers and passers-by were staring at me. I felt like a million bucks and that's all that mattered.
How to wear sequins for daytime then? My recipe is mixing textures and fabrics to create harmony. I personally prefer pairing sequins with wool, because it definitely balances things out on a more casual note. Adding a cozy scarf in a coordinating colour palette waters down the glitzy effect even more. The next step would be to wear jeans and flats in order to make your outfit really suitable for a daytime adventure. However, I couldn't resist not wearing my new faux-leather trousers and Catwoman boots. I am such a sucker for leather items..
It still counts as a daytime outfit though, as I would have no problem what-so-ever wearing this on a business meeting. Or would I? It's definitely not a school outfit though..
So here you have it. My take on "doing" sequins casually. Would you dare take your party pieces on the sidewalk mid-day?
P.S. I need to thank my friend Ana for taking these shots and for baring with my bad stressful behaviour for almost 2 hours of shooting. I thought I would not get any good photos because of the wind and light but I absolutely loved the result and I could barely limit the number of photos published. (thus the various collages)
